went to the uc davis/sac
state game tonight. first time i had been to the new stadium so that was
pretty cool. it was raining pretty hard, though, and started to get really
bad at half time. they delayed the start of the third quarter by about
20 minutes because of excessive lightning so we ended up leaving. turned
out to be a good game, but only 3 more points were scored after we left.
ucd won 17-16.
usc lost today. didn't
see the game, but they lost by more to osu than to oregon so you figure
it out. offense hasn't been real great the last couple games.
after the game we went
to dinner with a couple of meryl's friends and then drove back home.
finished the tile backsplash
about 5 minutes ago. will be ready for grout tomorrow so i'll probably
do that while meryl is gone and then i need to run some electrical and
cut a little filler piece for the space to be ready for the new stove.
it's nice to move back to the kitchen and get some things done. unfortunately
the bathroom has been taking forever.
worked for my boss' mom
the other day doing some handyman work around her rental property. installed
a handrail, fixed some flooring, recaulked around a bathtub and did some
other minor fixes. home maintenance is something i prefer to do over home
renovation. it's nice to come in and knock out 5-6 things in a day of varying
size/importance rather than accomplish one big thing over the course of
a month or more.
today we had someone recut
the granite by the stove. had we purchased the stove/oven before the granite
went in we wouldn't have had the extra cost now, but it wasn't in the budget
to buy a stove back then so it had to wait until now.
my cousin sean came to
visit this weekend and he helped us around the house. we installed a little
shelf in the kitchen for cooking books, started tiling the backsplash,
and cut down some white board which eventually became a large calendar
after meryl was done with it. still need to run some electrical to the
new stove (it requires 120v), adjust the range hood, finish the backsplash
tile by the sink and grout. this is now priority number one so that we
can get to cooking again.
gotta watch 48 movies by
the end of the year. also gotta get back to working on my top 25.
paid someone to take out
the stump from the front yard. thought he had a stump grinder and was going
to do it that way, but he did it by hand and with a chainsaw. took him
a while, but it's pretty much gone at this point. not quite what i was
hoping for, but it did the job. that stump was pretty impressive and i'm
glad we cut down the tree when we did. it already did a number on the house
and driveway; it could have been worse.
had a productive couple
days while i was off wed. and thu. finished putting up the trim on the
kitchen window and around the hallway-kitchen door. this weekend my cousin
is coming to visit and i hope to put him to work helping us get the backsplash
up in the kitchen.
we also did a bunch of
tiling in the bathroom. go the rest of the walls mostly done so now we
just need to tile the edges - top of the shower enclosure, top of the chair
rail (including the trim pieces), and a few pieces around the tub. another
day or two depending upon how easy the trim is to work with.
kinda tired of the way
the media goes after celebrities as modern day sacrifices. people like
britney spears or reggie bush and now cam newton. i'm not an sec guy and
if he's currently a cheater or if auburn knew about the money he supposedly
got to go to auburn, then the public hanging is in order. however, there's
all this speculation and dealing with the situation as if he's already
guilty. the cheating at different school two years ago thing is just bogus.
i don't have a problem with him getting money from an agent, same thing
with reggie bush. now if the school knew about it or used it to recruit
then it's a different story. wouldn't it be nice, though, if we gave these
things some time to breathe and work their way through the legal/investigative
system before talking about him being inelligible for the heisman? jeesh.
worst day of the year a
couple days ago with the time shift and all. blah. get off work at 4pm
and it's practically dark. awful.
worked at johnny's this
weekend. did a stucco patch by two french doors that weren't properly installed
by a previous contractor. it wasn't the most proper way in the world to
address the issue, but since that wall doesn't get much water and he didn't
want to get too invasive, i think what we did will be just fine. he'll
add geocel 2300 after the concrete cures and it'll be pretty water tight
after that and some paint.
also put in a post and
re-hung a gate that wasn't working for a while. also ran a new cat 5 wire
from the router to a switch and then to his office. fairly productive day
and a half and it was good to hang out with the santa cruz people, especially
on claire's birthday.
had originally planned
on working on some tile when i got back, but meryl is still at her dad's
so i think that's not going to happen tonight. maybe it'll be a football
night or something.
worked on tiling yesterday.
got a good amount done. two walls to go, plus the trim. i'm guessing three
more days because i'm not sure how the trim will go.
going to johnny's tomorrow
to work on his improperly installed doors. going to patch some stucco and
try to make it as waterproof as possible given the circumstances and fact
that he doesn't want to get too invasive at this stage.
republicans looking like
they're going to get majority in house, probably not senate. maybe this
will be a good thing for obama.
saw the usc game saturday.
was pretty good for about three quarters. oregon is really tough in the
second half. heard a stat that they outscore their opponents like 120-23
in the second half. usc scored 14 in the second half so that's pretty good.
defense was suspect once again and a late turnover killed any chance of
a comeback. barkley had a bad game. oregon's qb doesn't make some of the
easy passes, but manages the game well.
have to work tomorrow so
we won't be doing any tiling. thursday will be tiling day. hope to get
a large chunk done so we can move on. the bathroom has really dragged along
in the last few months because of the work we're doing for other people,
the road to hana run/training, and other little projects that have come
dog is whining and
barking as usual.
