FILM
first, some thoughts:

  • it seems like recently there are a lot of films that are good upper-middle tier films. i find it difficult these days to sort out the films in the 3-10 spots. it's nice that there are a lot of solid films, but i find that there's also a lack of greatness. in fact, i'm not sure i can think of a film in the last 10 years that i foresee ever breaking my top 25.
  • there was a lot of agreement between meryl and i this year. even though we did our lists separately, we came up with many overlapping films and performances as standouts
